Addis Ababa
University
Addis
Ababa University was founded by Emperor Haile
Selassie in 1950 and is the first higher education
of learning of the country. It was then known as
University College of Addis Ababa (UCAA), but
following the abortive coup d’etat of 1960, the
Emperor granted his palace to be the main campus (Sidist
Kilo) of the University, and in 1962 UCAA was
renamed Haile Selassie I University (HSIU).
Following the 1974 Ethiopian revolution, the
University was again renamed Addis Ababa
University (AAU).
